We were delighted to welcome His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales to our school. His visit lasted about two hours, during which time he toured the school farm, including a visit to the animal house which currently houses four piglets and five lambs that are still being bottle fed.
He joined pupils collecting eggs from the chicken pen before moving on to the Rural Studies room to talk to pupils carrying out experiments on what liquid keeps cut flowers the freshest.
His Royal Highness went to St Francis garden where he planted an apple tree helped by Luke Cleaver and year 7 Angel McGowan.
Head boy, Ethan Griffiths and head girl, Lauren Stundon accompanied Prince Charles, Mrs Knight and Mr O’Donovan into the library to join a discussion by business leaders about the year of food and farming.
The visit was part of The Prince's 'Seeing is Believing' programme, an initiative run by Business in the Community of which The Prince is President, and the Year of Food and Farming of which he is patron. The Prince’s 'Seeing is Believing' gives business leaders an insight into how they can play a role in addressing some of the challenges facing urban and rural communities.
The whole school gathered to say good bye to His Royal Highness and just before he departed a bird box was presented to him by Noeleen Roche and Tom Litchfield.
More photographs and a video are available from the BBC web site. We also have a special newsletter available.
