Absence from School
ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL
It is important that pupils attend school every day and are on time.
Registration starts at 9.00am every day and your child should be in school for 8.50am. This helps your child to develop good work habits so that, as a matter of course, they will turn up on time for work or for public examinations.
Failure to arrive on time is likely to end up in time being made up after school or during lunchtimes. It is the school’s right to detain a child after school as long as notice is given to parents. We are unlikely to take this decision lightly. However, if your child is late for school on a regular basis we will arrange for him/her to make up the time.
All absence from school must be covered by a phone call every day of the absence and by a letter on return to school. If your child does not arrive in school we use an automated system and you will get a message during the day to tell you that your child has not arrived. Please help us by making sure that you let school staff know if your child is not in school because of illness. We aim to make sure that all pupils are in school for at least 90% of the school year. You must phone or write a note to explain any absences your child may have from school.
It is important that holidays are not taken in term time, particularly in years 9 -11 when exams are being taken. If you need to take your child out of school for any length of time you must apply in writing in plenty of time. Permission to take leave in term time will only be given in exceptional circumstances.
